Blaze a new trail

“Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you.”

– Jean Paul Sarte

David Coxon, LMHC

Hello and welcome! I work with people one-on-one with issues ranging from anxiety, trauma, grief, and loss. I have been in the mental health field since 2013 and have worked in various settings, such as a psychiatric hospital and a mental health clinic for low-income individuals in our community. I have experience in working with psychosis, depression, and relationship difficulties.

Clients have shared that they appreciate how I allow them to explore their issues while guiding them with nuanced questions towards the solutions they seek. I genuinely value the healing power of humor and find joy in laughing with my clients. I operate from the perspective of existential psychotherapy with a client-centered approach and have received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Focusing.

When not seeing clients, I enjoy being in nature, and I am an avid hiker. I’m also an amateur musician and love being part of the underground music scene. However, I also appreciate a quiet night in with friends playing tabletop board games.

We carry with us in our day-to-day many unspoken feelings: a tightness in the chest, aches in the pit of the stomach, pangs of loneliness, or perhaps a terrible weight that seems too much to bear. What would it be like to give a voice to these feelings?

Existential Psychotherapy

Many of life’s challenges are worsened due to a feeling of being trapped or stuck. The existential approach can help a person realize the extent of their choices in any given movement, and feel more confident in their decisions through a strengthened sense of their place in the universe.

EMDR

Traumatic memories can be difficult to live with. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensatization and Reprocessessing) Therapy activates the brains natural processing mechanisms in order to help a person shed the weight of burdensome past experiences.

You are not condemned to repeat the same mistakes over and over. I can work with you to give voice and shape to these feelings. Awareness leads to clarity, clarity brings agency, and agency gives you the freedom to walk that new path.

Billing and Scheduling

I offer a free consultation call to determine if my skills would be a good fit for your needs. I do not take insurance at this time, and charge $150 per 50 minute session. Please call or email me to schedule a consultation.

One of the most powerful aspects of good therapy is in how it illuminates the choices we have in each moment of our lives. Our options are limited by our perceptions, and it’s very possible that a better path lies just outside of our awareness, waiting to be discovered.
